Chairs Triptych
More about the Chairs Triptych:
Completed during the pandemic, the subject matter was inspired by the future-nostalgia (a term I am making up) that I felt for the moment when one day I would be free from isolation. Each of the chairs has a rope on it that has just been untied, as if a person who was tied to that chair has just escaped, the ropes are still mid-air, mid-fall.
The colors are CMY--cyan, magenta, yellow--the colors of the internet. In painting and in real life, the primary colors--red, yellow, blue--combine, along with light (white) and the absence of light (black), to make all other colors. On the internet, the primary colors that make all other colors you see on your screen are cyan, magenta, and yellow.
Below is a diagram showing the "internet's color wheel", as I have decided to call it, with my color assignment calculations overlayed on it. As you can see, I chose the colors of the chair and the rope by choosing the nearest neighbors to either side of the background color.
