Big Scissors
More about Big Scissors:

To me, scissors represent yonic power and feminine strength.

Scissors are generative tools for artists to bring new creations to life. They also have a symmetry and dual-sidedness that is reminischent of the life-giving female anatomy. The way their sleek long blades sit below voluptous round parts calls to mind a leggy woman with a curvy torso...and the smooth elegant way they move when I am using them to make my precise, repetitive cuts reminds me of the way a confident woman struts in pointy stilletos. (The fact that just saying the word 'scissors' might conjure up the idea of 'scissoring' only adds to the association with feminine autonomy that this basic crafting tool holds.) On the other hand, when a pair of scissors is in the closed position, it becomes a potential stabbing device that can be seen as phallic--in shape as well as in its potentical for destruction (which is typically more tied to masculine energy).

My portraits of scissors are my odes to feminine beings-- their generative energy and unique creative power, as well as their versatility and adaptability to surviving in a man's world.
